PUPS Act

We are putting an end to “puppy mills” in Ontario. Due to the inferior quality of care, puppies sold by puppy mills can have numerous health problems and behavioural issues.

That is why the provincial government is cracking down on puppy mill operations to help ensure the safe and ethical treatment of dogs.

The Preventing Unethical Puppy Sales Act (PUPS Act) if passed, will help stop harmful dog breeding practices, impose penalties on bad actors, and make sure that dogs across Ontario receive the care they deserve.

With the strongest penalties for animal welfare violations in the country, our government is ensuring a comprehensive and robust animal welfare enforcement system to protect and safeguard animals.

The government is establishing a higher standard of care for every dog in Ontario.
