Ontario Advancing Infrastructure Projects Across York-Simcoe
January 28, 2025
HOLLAND LANDING — MPP Caroline Mulroney is announcing new progress on multiple infrastructure projects across York-Simcoe, including in healthcare, long-term care, education, transportation, and the environment. This progress is supported by a combined investment of over $34 million.
“Since day one, our government has been focused on making life easier and more affordable for families,” said Caroline Mulroney, MPP for York-Simcoe. “Through today’s record investments in health care, education, transportation, and the environment, we are keeping our promise to the people and building them the infrastructure that will last generations.”
In health care, the provincial government is investing over $20 million, including an increase in annual base funding of $11.6 million, in Southlake Health. This investment will support Southlake’s operations, ensuring people and families in northern York Region and southern Simcoe County have access to high-quality care, close to home. This investment supports the government’s plan to build a health care system that better supports the needs of people and families across the province.
Building on our plan to deliver care closer to home, MPP Mulroney is announcing the approval of a new long-term care home for East Gwillimbury. This brand new, state-of-the-art living facility will provide compassionate care for up to 160 residents and their loved ones. The Neighbourhood Better Living- East Gwillimbury home will be open to residents starting in 2027-28.
As part of the government’s commitment to build new, modern, state-of-the-art schools across the province, MPP Mulroney is announcing a new school in East Gwillimbury for CS Viamonde, École Élémentaire Chantal‑Benoit. This new school will be supported by an investment of $14.5 million and will create 262 elementary student spaces and 49 licensed child care spaces. This project is part of $1.3 billion in funding to build new schools and expansions, including child care spaces, announced as part of the Ministry of Education’s Capital Priorities Program. Under the government’s plan, schools are being built – faster, efficiently, and effectively so that students will have increased access to a place to learn and prepare for the jobs of tomorrow.
In transportation, the Ontario government has marked another milestone to build the Bradford Bypass and reduce congestion across York Region and Simcoe County. Today, the province issued two requests for proposals to complete detailed designs for both the central and east sections of the bypass. This is another indication of progress on a project that will get people where they need to go, faster. During construction, the project is expected to support up to 2,200 jobs annually and contribute up to $286 million to Ontario’s GDP.
And in the environment, Lake Simcoe continues to be supported by record investments from the government of Ontario. Today, MPP Mulroney announced that our government has reached an agreement with the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury to be the local partner and owner of a phosphorus reduction project in the Lake Simcoe watershed. This new project will improve the lake’s water quality and create healthier, stronger communities across the region. The government also reconfirmed its $24-million capital funding commitment for this project in Ontario’s 2024 Budget.
To build all of this, the government understands that the province requires skilled trades professionals across the workforce. As a part of today’s progress update, MPP Mulroney is announcing that Georgina Trades Trading Inc. will receive an investment of over $309,000 from the government that will help train up to 30 pre-apprentices in general contracting. This project will develop a more resilient workforce and build a stronger Ontario.
Taken together, the investments announced today strengthen the health care, long-term care, education, and transportation infrastructure in York-Simcoe, while protecting the Lake that families across the region have visited for decades.
