We want to hear from you! Consultations on Protections for New Home Buyers

The government is seeking feedback on proposed changes that could help strengthen consumer protection and build confidence when Ontarians make one of the biggest purchases of their lives – a new home.

Ontario is consulting with the public, consumer groups, relevant sectors to ensure the very best protections for Ontarians buying new homes.

From June 29 to August 13, 2023, the public can share their feedback on the Ontario Regulatory Registry on the following topics:

  • A cooling-off period for purchasers of new freehold homes;
  • Whether there should be a requirement that purchasers of new homes receive legal advice on their purchase agreements; and
  • Ways to address escalations in the price of new homes after a new home purchase agreement is signed.

This government knows homeownership is top-of-mind for families and individuals in York-Simcoe and across the province. That is why we are exploring new ways to better protect Ontarians buying new homes.
