Resource Management and Safety Act
The provincial government is taking action to build resilient, safe & innovative communities ready to respond to challenges including wildland fires, CO2 emissions and hazardous oil and gas wells, all while supporting growth and development in Ontario.
Our government is doing everything we can to support workers and businesses in York-Simcoe and provide better services and keep communities safe.
That’s why we are moving forward with legislative changes to promote innovation and new technology in our natural resource sector to create jobs and protect communities. Those changes would:
- Enhance the vital role land surveyors play in the province’s development and growth and help attract more surveyors to the profession to support their key role in helping ensure access to safe and affordable housing options.
- Expand wildland fire prevention and response, including municipal fire plans and stricter penalties for those who don’t follow forest fire laws to reduce the risk of unwanted human-caused fires.
- Allow the ministry to take immediate action to address hazardous oil and gas wells that pose a public safety risk and recover costs of any action taken on the well.
- Enable the regulation of geologic carbon storage which would help energy-intensive industries manage greenhouse gas emissions and create local jobs and investment while ensuring public safety.
These changes are another step in our governments plan to create jobs and protect communities and build Ontario.
