Province Further Expanding Basic Constable Training Program to Protect Ontario
September 26, 2025
Our government is expanding the Basic Constable Training (BCT) program to help keep our streets and communities safe.
For the first time, the Ontario Police College will offer BCT at two sites: the College in Aylmer and at the DEV Hotel and Conference Centre in Cornwall.
This will allow for an additional 121 recruits to be trained this fall for a total of 641 recruits across both sites.
In 2023, our government eliminated the tuition fee for the BCT program, which includes courses in federal law, provincial law, traffic law, human rights, diversity and professional practice, leadership, ethics, mental health for first responders and for people in crisis, de-escalation tactics, firearms, officer safety and fitness for duty. This further builds on last year’s announced expansion to benefit the the South Simcoe Police Service and other small, medium-sized and First Nation police services including the Georgina Island Police.
Under the leadership of Premier Ford, we are working every day to protect Ontario and that includes ensuring our police services have the police officers they need to keep our province safe.
