Ontario’s Affordable Energy Future: The Pressing Case for More Power

Ontario needs more power – 75% more by 2050 – as we build new homes, attract job-creating investments and the increasing electrification of industry.

Unlike the previous Liberal government and most jurisdictions, Ontario has a credible roadmap to meet surging demand.

That is why our government unveiled an ambitious vision to secure all forms of energy we will need for today’s families and for future generations. Ontario’s Affordable Energy Future is anchored by:

  • Our commitment to introducing the province’s first-ever integrated energy plan will ensure the entire energy sector is aligned with our government’s pro-growth agenda, reducing costs and emissions province-wide.
  • A focus on energy affordability as the main driver in planning decisions by driving savings through competition, unlike previous governments that chose the most expensive resources.
  • Our proven record to meet emission reduction targets by generating more non-emitting nuclear energy to power our growth. We choose technology, not taxation, to reduce emissions while protecting families’ pocketbooks from Liberal tax grabs. This is our alternative to the costly Liberal carbon tax.
  • There are new ways to save families and businesses money through energy conservation and supports to generate more clean power by launching significant energy efficiency programs on January 1, 2025.
  • A plan for Ontario to emerge as a Clean Energy Superpower as we build on our competitive advantage and export clean energy and technology into the US and around the world to reduce continental emissions, and generate revenue and jobs in our province.

For the first time, Ontario will coordinate and develop a long-term plan for electricity, natural gas, and other fuels to ensure energy needs are anticipated and met efficiently, avoiding the disjointed, shortsighted, and costly ideological approach of the Liberals.

Unlike previous government that imposed costly energy experiments that drove up bills, our government is implementing an all-of-the-above energy strategy that keeps costs down and the lights on for our families and businesses.
