Ontario Welcomes Historic Investment from Volkswagen
Volkswagen, Europe’s largest automaker, announced that it has chosen Ontario to build its first overseas EV battery manufacturing facility in St. Thomas, Ontario.
The facility, Volkswagen’s largest to date at 370 acres, will create up to 3,000 direct jobs and up to 30,000 indirect jobs. Once complete, the plant will produce batteries for up to one million electric vehicles per year.
In the last two and a half years, Ontario has attracted $24 billion in transformative investments by global automakers and suppliers of EV batteries and battery materials.
From mining critical minerals to building batteries and electric vehicles, Ontario has the resources and skilled workers to continue leading the world in electric vehicles.
Today’s announcement is a major vote of confidence in Ontario, and demonstrates that we are positioning the province as a global leader on the electric vehicle supply chain.
