Ontario Requiring Cleaner Washrooms on Construction Sites

Ontario is making the skilled trade more accessible for women

This government has an ambitious plan to build Ontario. To deliver the infrastructure projects businesses and families need, including 1.5 million homes by 2031, we need all hands on deck.

To support these everyday heroes who are building our province, we are improving washrooms by requiring them to be completely enclosed, have adequate lighting and hand sanitizer (where running water is not reasonably possible).

Additionally, we are doubling the number of toilets on jobsites.

Furthermore, currently, only one in ten construction workers in Ontario are women. Ontario is proposing to require women’s-only washrooms on construction sites and ensure women have properly fitting safety gear.

These changes will attract more women to these well-paying and rewarding careers by making jobsites safe and welcoming.

We’re building on the ground-breaking actions we took in our Working for Workers Acts, 2021 and 2022, that are already helping millions of people.
