Ontario Launching Debit Payment on PRESTO Devices

We are making transit more convenient by giving riders more ways to pay for transit fares.

Starting today, commuters can pay transit fares with debit cards, including debit cards on a smartphone or smartwatch, when taking GO Transit and York Region Transit.

This initiative builds on the government’s introduction of credit card fare payments last summer.

Riders have tapped on over 1 million times with credit cards across GO and the 905 since the initial launch in August 2022.

Commuters can also pay transit fares with debit cards on the UP Express, Brampton Transit, Burlington Transit, Oakville Transit, Durham Transit, Hamilton Street Railway, and MiWay in Mississauga.

After years of Liberal mismanagement, our government is aligning the PRESTO system with best-in-class transit practices from jurisdictions across the world.
