Ontario Expanding Access to Midwifery Services Across the Province
To connect thousands of Ontario families to fast, convenient care closer to home, the government is investing $8.27 million for new and expanded midwifery services across the province.
Expanding services across the province will increase access to midwifery and newborn care both in hospital and at home, improve transitions in care and connect more people to culturally appropriate health care options.
This funding includes $4.82 million to immediately build and expand midwifery services and Indigenous midwifery programs at community health centres, hospitals, family health teams and existing midwifery practices across the province.
In addition, Ontario has launched a call for proposals today (August 10th) that will provide up to $3.45 million to expand access to midwifery services in hospitals or through primary health, team-based comprehensive prenatal and postpartum care.
