Ontario Establishes First New Conservation Reserve in Over 10 Years
Ontario has created the province’s first new conservation reserve in over 10 years along the southern shore of Prince Edward County.
The site protects nearly 4,000 acres (over 1,600 hectares) of land – nearly five times the size of the Toronto Islands – that is currently used for hiking, birdwatching and hunting.
The province engaged with local municipal partners, Indigenous communities, and the public to gather input and feedback on the proposal before deciding to establish Monarch Point Conservation Reserve.
