Ontario Continues to Attract Historic New Investments that are Creating Jobs
For the seventh straight month, we have seen jobs increase in Ontario along with new investments. Since 2018, more than 600,000 good-paying jobs have been added to the province and we continue to lead the nation in job creation.
The unemployment rate in the province declined by 0.2 percentage points to 4.9% last month, the lowest since 1989.
Over the last two and a half years, Ontario has attracted $25 billion in automotive and EV-related investments. Most recently, we announced a $7 billion investment from Volkswagen to build their first overseas EV battery manufacturing facility in St. Thomas, which will create up to 3,000 direct jobs and up to 30,000 indirect jobs.
This government has also attracted $3 billion in investments from the life sciences sector and global biomanufacturers, the most recent being a multi-million dollar investment from Moderna to partner with Novocol Pharma, an Ontario-based manufacturer, which will create new jobs in the province
Together, we’re building a strong Ontario, while laying a strong foundation for the future.
