Ontario Connecting Long-term Care Residents to More Nutritional Food Choices and Expanding PSW Training Program

For the second year in a row our government is providing long-term care homes a major increase in funding to expand healthy menu options and culturally inspired meals for residents.

Over the last two years, the we have increased funding for food and nutrition quality by a total of over 26 per cent.

This additional funding supports new regulations that came into effect last year that ensure residents are provided with more individual food choices, more fresh produce and local foods in season, and additional menu flexibility.

The government is fixing long-term care to ensure Ontario’s seniors experience the quality of care and quality of life they need and deserve, both now and in the future.

Ontario Training 600 New Personal Support Workers in Long-term Care

The government is also continuing to make historic investments to fix long-term care, including hiring thousands of additional healthcare workers as we implement a nation-leading standard of four hours of care, per resident, per day by 2025.

To help meet that goal, we’re expanding the Learn and Earn Accelerated Program (LEAP LTC) by investing $16.5 million to train up to 600 new personal support workers.

More personal support workers will help connect residents to more hours of hands-on direct care while also helping healthcare staff upskill their careers.
