New Inquest Date into the Death of Victor Ogundipe Announced

Dr. Jennifer M. Dmetrichuk, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, has announced the new inquest date into the death of Victor Ogundipe.

Mr. Ogundipe, 41, died in hospital on January 26, 2017, after being transferred from the Toronto South Detention Centre. An inquest into Mr. Ogundipe’s death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Ogundipe’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths from occurring in similar circumstances.

The inquest is expected to last 10 days and hear from approximately 14 witnesses.

The inquest will start at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 26, 2022. Murray Segal will be the presiding officer and Kathy Nedelkopoulos will be inquest counsel.
