New Date Announced for Inquest into the Death of Abdurahman Hassan

Dr. Paul Dungey, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Kingston Office, has announced a new date for the inquest into the death of Abdurahman Hassan.
Mr. Hassan, 39, died in hospital on June 11, 2015, after being transferred from the Central East Correction Centre in Lindsay. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Hassan’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths in similar circumstances.
The inquest is expected to last 15 days and will hear from approximately 20 witnesses.
The inquest will start at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2023. Dr. David Eden will preside as inquest officer. Jai Dhar and Julian Roy will be the inquest counsel.
