Motion Hearing in the Pending Inquest into the Death of Sammy Yatim Announced

Dr. Jennifer Dmetrichuk, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, announced today that a motion will be heard related to the pending inquest into the death of Sammy Yatim.

Mr. Yatim, 18, died in hospital on July 27, 2013, after being shot during an altercation with Toronto police officers. An inquest into the death of Mr. Yatim is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The motion hearing will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, with all parties making their submissions remotely. Members of the public who wish to view the proceedings can do so live at the link provided below.

Dr. David Cameron, presiding coroner for the inquest, will preside at the motion hearing. Co-counsel Shanna Ferrone and Peter Napier are counsel to the coroner.
