Keeping Electricity Costs Down
The provincial government is keeping electricity costs down for families, small businesses and farms through our investments in the Ontario Electricity Rebate and the Ontario Electricity Support Program.
Effective November 1, 2023, this government is increasing the on-bill Ontario Electricity Rebate (OER) from 11.7 per cent to 19.3 per cent, reducing a typical households electricity bill by $26 a month – or $312 a year.
This increase protects electricity customers from the normal year-to-year variability in electricity costs – ensuring your bills remain affordable and predictable.
At the same time, we are supporting thousands of additional low-income families with an additional $50 million investment in the Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP).
The government’s increased investment in the low-income targeted OESP will support a significant expansion to the program, increasing the income eligibility thresholds for the program by up to 35 per cent. This will benefit low-income families in York-Simcoe and across Ontario.
For example, a four-person household, which could be eligible for an additional $40 each month in financial support, will see the maximum income eligibility threshold increase from $48,000 to $65,000 per year after-tax – an increase of $17,000.
