January 12, 2026

Sutton West, ON – On Friday, MPP Caroline Mulroney and the Chair of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Bob Chant, met with the team at the Sutton Curling Club to hear about the results of a $65,600 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The year-long grant, awarded in 2024, was used to update their building’s aging facility infrastructure. Thanks to the grant, the Club was able to install a new furnace, increase security with new outdoor lighting and more, all of which will help the organization continue to provide a great recreational space in the community.

“Investing in community facilities through the Ontario Trillium Foundation helps ensure that local facilities like the Sutton Curling Club remain safe, modern, and accessible,” said Caroline Mulroney, MPP for York-Simcoe. “Our government’s support allows the Club to continue offering residents a welcoming space to stay active and connected, and this Club is a wonderful example of that.”

The focus of the OTF Capital grant was to enable the Club to remove and dispose of old headers, or large steel pipes and smaller branch pipes, which carry chilled brine to and from the many pipes under the floor that create the curling ice surface. In addition, the Club was able to replace its aging gas furnace and install a new heat pump and back-up gas furnace. In addition, the grant helped the Club install new outdoor lights and fixtures to ensure help improve safety and security.

“The impact of the Ontario Trillium Foundation grants on the Sutton Curling Club over the past several years has been significant,” said Terry Thompson, current President of the Sutton Curling Club. “This most recent grant has allowed necessary renovations to ensure our curling club will be operational well into the future and help to keep operating costs in line to be able to ensure the enjoyment of the facility for new and existing members.”

The Sutton Curling Club is committed to preserving this space and ensuring that it remains accessible for many community activities over the course of the year. To find out more about the Sutton Curling Club, please visit the website at www.suttoncurlingclub.ca
